Aims and Objectives:
Giraffe is an innovative community social enterprise at the heart of the Perthshire community. Established in 2009, our key aim is to tackle the pressing and entrenched social problem of the unemployment and social exclusion of people with enduring mental ill-health, disabilities and other significant workplace barriers.  We wish to overcome discrimination, stigma and lack of understanding among the public and local employers about the positive skills, attributes and enthusiasm that disadvantaged people can bring to the workplace.

We create:

  • Effective support for individuals who are making the fragile transition into the mainstream work environment
  • Opportunities for volunteering, training and employment in a supportive environment together with opportunities to improve health and well-being through social engagement and inclusive activities. This gives people meaningful experience, confidence and credibility as they move towards a positive outcome.  This could be employment, volunteering, training or further/higher education.
  • Vocational experience, employability skills and confidence in hospitality and horticulture.
  • Links with other agencies and businesses to develop a sustainable network of opportunities for individuals who have faced barriers to employment.

Our Enterprises
Giraffe operates a number community businesses including; South Street Café, two training kitchens, Mill St Café, the Ladeside Garden Centre and Springlands Walled Garden. We also manage the CATH (Churches Action for the Homeless) lunch service and offer one weekly lunch club in Perth and other monthly lunch clubs at various residential homes throughout Perthshire.
